• World to Fed: We're prepared for U.S. rate hike, so don't delay
Central bankers from around the world are telling their American counterparts that they are ready for a U.S. interest rate hike and would prefer that the Federal Reserve make the move without further ado. In private and in public at last week's global central banking conference in Jackson Hole, the message from visiting policymakers was that the Fed has telegraphed an initial monetary tightening and, trinc a year-long rise in the dollar, financial markets globally are as ready as they can be.
• China July services trade deficit widens as more spend abroad
China's trade deficit in services continued to widen in July to $17.6 billion, the foreign exchange regulator said on Monday, as Chinese spent more abroad than foreign visitors in the country. The deficit was led by a huge gap of $15.9 billion in spending between Chinese and foreign visitors, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) said. China posted a $46 billion surplus on trade of goods in July, resulting in a combined surplus on trade in goods and services of $28.4 billion.
• Swiss rates to stay negative for some time - SNB's Jordan
Swiss interest rates will stay negative "for some time" given many risks -- including China -- that could spark safe-haven buying of what is already a "clearly overvalued" Swiss franc, Swiss National Bank Chairman (SNB) Thomas Jordan said. Defusing the Greek debt crisis eased some upward pressure on the franc, Jordan told the NZZ am Sonntag paper in an interview, but he stressed the central bank's commitment to negative rates and readiness to intervene if needed on currency markets.
• Japan July industrial output falls, signals laboured economic recovery
Japan's industrial output unexpectedly fell in July in a worrying sign that high inventories and weak overseas demand could further hamper an economy struggling to recover from a slump in the second quarter. The 0.6 percent decline in output in July was much worse than the median estimate for a 0.1 percent increase and trinc a 1.1 rise in June, trade ministry data showed on Monday.
